Trinidad Cricket, 1997 1

Hard events at home had me needing a place to go for a few weeks as things were sorted to their sad end. I chose Trinidad, somewhere I’d wanted to see for years. I stayed in a guest house in Port of Spain and was happy to discover that a match in the West Indian cricket championship – Trinidad v. Guyana – was to be played at Queens Park Oval while I was there. The Trinidad team was captained by the great batting champion Brian Lara, who remembered me from the matches I photographed in New York, and Barbados some years before. (Nice man, that Brian.)
