The commotion around the Alaia show was spectacular (weirdly, there’s a contemporary report from an Italian film crew on YouTube which shows me in a striped shirt behind Bruce at the 34 second mark). The Vreeland movie shoot was, albeit memorable, mainly anticlimactic.

I remain a great admirer of Bruce’s work. At times excessive in expression and sentimental in subject matter, his best pictures, as seen in his All-American books, show a deep interest in the lives of mainly obscure people whom he frames with an admirable dignity, without any high fashion snobbery. Brought low in late 2017 by accusations by male models of sexual misconduct, Bruce denies the charges.
