Williamsburg, ’89

In August, 1989 I took my new 4×5 camera out for a few tests in my neighborhood, the blocks around South 3rd Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn. That part of the city has changed enormously since then, and I’m sorry now I didn’t make a deeper documentary survey at the time. I was interested in other things, and not at all sensitive to the immense power the passage of time gives to the most off-hand pictures. Some of these photos are a lot better than off hand, though, and I’m deeply grateful for the people, my neighbors, who made them possible.
