Barbados, 1990

Only a few weeks after my press trip to Jamaica, the same newsletter sent me to Barbados, a very different destination. Smaller and with a tidier landscape than her sister island, Barbados was ruled by the British to a fair-thee-well, as the prevailing orderliness there made clear. For that, it was easier for me to wander around Bridgetown than Kingston. Jamaica got me interested in the game of cricket. If I understood it, I reasoned I’d have something to talk about to people in a lot of different places. This tuned out to be spot on, and Barbados was where my research began.
